Aattam Movie Review: Impactful Simplicity!

A thought-provoking Malayalam movie explores the complexities of human experiences and the challenges women face in seeking justice, without excessive violence.

2–3 minutes

I recently watched a Malayalam movie that really stuck with me. We did have all theaters filled with box office Mollywood movies (Manjummel Boys, Premalu, Bramayugam); may be this movie went unnoticed. Most of the movies that bring out sensitive issues rely on violence or bloodshed to make an impact.

But this one took a different approach. It didn’t bombard the audience with horrific visuals, but in a smooth and gentle way, it explored the complexities of human experiences. Lately, they have been churning out powerful stories that are subtle yet impactful. Check out my post on “Can we truly understand them?” For example, in Kaathal the Core, there is no violence, no shouting, just an exploration that makes you wonder about complexities.

Similarly, this movie follows the same path. It’s slow paced yet intriguing. The story revolves around a few men and a woman (the protagonist) performing stage dramas over the years. Everyone is comfortable with each other. A new member joined recently, and the crew got recognition across the media.  Initially, he was portrayed as the villain in the movie, but it wasn’t clear.

The group members assemble at a resort to celebrate their successful play. Everyone enjoys the place, the drinks, and the ambience. The lead gets harassed by someone and can’t identify the culprit, but she is sure about it.

The core of the movie revolves around the woman after she gets harassed. All the men in the crew want to punish the men who committed the crime, but it differs when they understand that supporting him would actually help them in their careers.

A promotional poster featuring a large group of men in traditional Indian attire surrounding a man in a green shirt and a young woman in a blue and red saree, suggesting they are the central characters of a film or TV show.

What follows is a thought-provoking exploration of trust, belief, and the difficulties of human relationships. They started questioning her memory, her actions, and the people around her. Despite what she said, she couldn’t prove it to them. Even the one whom she loved made her lie to prove her innocence and denied their relationship. She gets frustrated and heartbroken and leaves the group.

The end was indeed an interesting turn. The story has been played by another troupe with her as the female lead. This time, a masked man confesses to her, unable to bear the guilt, while the original troupe is the audience. But the women didn’t want to know his identity or show it to the audience

Perhaps the strength of the movie lies in conveying such a heavy concept without excessive violence or anything else. It focuses more on the complexities surrounding sexual harassment and the challenges women face when seeking justice from their own crew.

While some viewers may feel uncomfortable with its portrayal of men, it challenges your perspective and leaves you thinking from a different lens.

Cheers!

The Paradox of Life’s Brevity and Eternity!

Life is fleeting yet significant. YOLO motivates crossing off the bucket list, while a longer life offers time for contemplation and enjoyment.

2–3 minutes

Do you ever think that life is fleeting or never ending? Have you had thought about it like imagining yourself at two ends of extremes. I’m sure that everybody would have had some days that were unnoticeable whereas for some, it would seemed like it lasted forever. Maybe we can discuss both the extreme scenarios today.

First of all, it is crucial to discuss the statement that life is incredibly short. Since we have only one chance, most use the motivational phrase YOLO to remind us of that fact. It may motivate people to cross items off their bucket list: travel to all places, try new exotic dishes, and finally do what we have struggled to accomplish.

However, a short timeline does not imply a meaningless end. One’s small joys may lose their value: words will be the only things that will not hurry, long walks with good friends, prefect coffee, doing silly things without guilt, taking exhilarating nature, viewing sunsets and sunrise, unexecuted plans with your closed buddy and the list goes on.

With the limited time, we may choose to let go of meaningless conflicts, ego, irritations, spending all your energy at the desk in front of laptop. There is no point in arguing yourself or proving it to the world that you exist, have to be remembered. After all, why we waste the precious time fighting over the things that won’t matter after we are gone. Life is too short for that. (I still wonder why canines have shorter life span.!)

Let’s go to the opposite extreme, where we are living a long life (assume it to be 100 or 150 years). Instead of rushing things and running towards the goal post, maybe we will look at the track, the people running along with us. We’d take our time, not force ourselves into things. We’d focus on the process by just posting that reel on IG, shooting that video for YT, writing something that you wished for, learning that skill at your pace and not just on the results. Maybe if we lived longer, we would reconsider what success actually means to us.

There won’t be any hurry on choosing a career path, partner or all life major decisions. We’d take care of our families and plan our futures calmly. You could enjoy all things in the budget list without hurry. We would be willing to do the all the above said once yet we will be doing it slowly right?

Ultimately, whether life is a blink or a marathon, the desire to truly live continues to exist. Our inherent desire for happiness through experiences, connections, and self-expression remains constant. In both scenarios, we’d do what we truly want. But distractions often lead us astray.

I don’t have a conclusion. Today, something made me think deeply about life’s length. How would you react if life were short or long? Imagine both and see what you’d do. Just take a moment to think about it & share yours!

Cheers!

Beyond the BFF Fairytale!

Friendships have always been idealized as unbreakable bonds, but reality often challenges this notion. As we grow, we realize that not every friend is a bestie, trust is built on honesty, people have varied intentions, and growth can lead to drifting apart. Respecting differences and finding genuine connections make the journey worthwhile.

The Plant Kingdom Uncovered: Secrets Revealed!

Plants may not seem as exciting as animals and landscapes, but they are the unsung heroes of our planet. They play a vital role in keeping our world spinning through the plant-animal partnership, communication with fungal buddies, food web foundation, sensory perception, and even environmental guardianship. With their incredible abilities and impact on ecosystems, plants deserve our utmost respect and admiration.

It’s time to bore you people about the unsung heroes of our planet—plants. I know, I know, they might not seem as exciting as majestic animals or jaw-dropping landscapes, but trust me, these green giants are the real superstars of the natural world. Let me explain you, why! Next week, I might up with something else as real heroes! (lol).

#The Cycles of Life

Let’s start with the plant-animal partnership that keeps our world spinning. It’s like a perfectly choreographed dance: we exhale carbon dioxide, and plants use that as fuel for their photosynthesis magic, converting it into the life-giving oxygen we need to breathe. I think everyone knows this since we studied right from the childhood. This harmonious cycle is a prime example of how interconnected life on Earth really is.

#The Secret Plant Society

Now, you might think plants are just sitting around, soaking up sunlight, and minding their own business. But, oh, how wrong! These guys are constantly chatting away with their fungal buddies through an underground mycelial network, exchanging all sorts of juicy information, from nutrient updates to environmental gossip (lol). It’s like a secret plant society, with people coordinating their responses and adapting to their surroundings.

#Backbone of Diversity

Plants are the foundation of virtually every food web on this planet. They harness the power of the sun to create organic compounds, providing sustenance and shelter for countless organisms, from tiny decomposers to majestic apex predators. Without our plant pals, the intricate tapestry of biodiversity we know and love would simply unravel. Reminds me of this quote!

Animals are something invented by plants to move seeds around.
#Plants’ Sensory Sophistication

Plants aren’t just sitting pretty; they’re constantly perceiving their environment through a mind-boggling array of senses. They can detect light, gravity, touch, and even chemical signals from herbivores and pathogens. And when threatened, they mount sophisticated defensive responses, releasing volatile compounds to deter attackers and call-in reinforcements.

#Evolutionary Marvels

Some plants have taken evolution to a whole new level by becoming straight-up carnivores. I’m talking about insect-eating marvels like the Venus flytrap and pitcher plants. These guys have evolved elaborate trapping mechanisms to capture and digest small animals. (Yes, parasitic plants exist too!)

#Environmental Guardians

But plants aren’t just amazing in their own right; they’re also our planet’s guardians. Through a process called phytoremediation, certain plant species can absorb and break down environmental pollutants, acting as natural filters and purifiers. Talk about eco-warriors!

#Biomimicry and Sustainable Innovation

Nature has inspired humans for ages, leading to amazing inventions. We look to plants for ideas, like making surfaces clean themselves like lotus leaves do. Engineers have developed coatings and materials that mimic the microstructure of lotus leaves, which repel water and prevent dirt from sticking. This innovation has led to the creation of self-cleaning windows, paints, and textiles, reducing the need for harsh cleaning chemicals and saving time and resources.

#The Plant Intelligence Debate

As we continue to unravel the mysteries of plant biology, the notion of plant intelligence just keeps getting more intriguing. Scientists have observed plant behaviors that suggest memory-like responses, decision-making abilities, and even potential forms of consciousness. More over, plants can pass down “memories” of environmental conditions and stress experiences to their offspring through epigenetic mechanisms. Could there be a hidden complexity to these green organisms that we have yet to fully grasp?

#The Heartbeat of Ecosystems

At the end of the day, plants are the heartbeat of our ecosystems, providing the foundation for virtually all life on Earth. Their roots stabilize soils, their structures provide shelter and food sources for countless organisms, and their presence shapes entire landscapes. That quote totally shifted my view, you know? It made me see things differently, like looking at the world through a plant’s point of view.

I know, there is lot of explore of each sub, let’s see. So, the next time you’re out in nature, take a moment to appreciate the incredible world of plants. These unassuming beings are the real MVPs, the hidden superstars that make life on our planet possible. Let’s give these green wonders the respect and admiration they so rightfully deserve! Grow or plant if possible :)

Cheers!

Brewing Insights from Google’s Flat White Doodle!

So, Google’s doodle today was all about celebrating the “flat white” making it to the dictionary in 2011. It’s a strong coffee with a smidge of steamed milk, a tulip cup, and major popularity. I’m a big coffee fan, but I’ve never tried it. Maybe I’ll give it a shot. Have you tried it?

2–3 minutes

Today, I wanted to write about something that caught my eye when I opened up Google: The Doodle, celebrating the addition of “flat white” to the dictionary back in 2011. Yup, that fancy coffee drink has officially made it into the big book of words!

Now, I know what you’re thinking: “Why is she rambling about coffee?” Well, let me tell you, I’m quite a caffeine lover myself. I usually down around 3–4 cups a day, depending on how much work or stress I’ve got going on. And we’re not talking tiny sips here; I’m talking 150-180-ml tumblers.

Back in my hostel days, the coffee they served was straight-up nasty. I had to switch to tea just to get my energy fix. That’s when I started experimenting with instant coffee powders, trying to recreate that strong, filtered coffee taste I loved from home. Black coffee these days

It wasn’t until I started watching K-dramas (Coffee Prince) in college that I even learned about the existence of baristas—people who actually take courses and make a career out of brewing coffee! Mind blown. Coming from a traditional Indian family, we never splurged on fancy $5 lattes or the like.

Anyway, back to the flat white. This little beauty is essentially an espresso-based drink with just a smidge of steamed milk, resulting in a much stronger coffee flavor than your typical latte. They are served in a tulip cup, which is smaller compared with the latte. The debate rages on about whether it originated in New Zealand or Australia, but one thing’s for sure: it’s gained major popularity in recent years (20th century).

Source: Taste of home

I’ve tried my fair share of coffee drinks — cappuccinos, cold brews, you name it. But I haven’t had the chance to sample a proper flat white or straight espresso yet. I’m definitely keen to explore more coffee bean goodness.

So there you have it, my little spiel on the flat white and why Google decided to honor it today. Who knows, maybe I’ll treat myself to one and see what all the fuss is about!

Let me know if you’ve tried it and what you thought. As I wrap up my caffeinated musings, I can’t help but feel grateful to Google for putting the spotlight on the humble flat white through their delightful doodle. Who knew this unassuming coffee drink had such a fascinating history and devoted following?

Cheers! caffeine crew!

Celebrating Sisterhood on Women’s Day!

2–3 minutes

A friend messaged me late that afternoon, casually, about anything for Women’s Day. I was caught off guard. Was I supposed to do something? I had no time, and my mind was all over the place.

You know how it is—those bonds we forge in school and college are tighter than skinny jeans. You’re basically sisters and partners in crime. But then adulting happens—career, marriage, families—and slowly but surely, those ride-or-die besties become casual acquaintances who occasionally like each other’s Instagram pics and share reels (if lucky, though).

The thing is, female friendships deserve a little more light than they get! Think about it: When was the last time you watched a movie that did those bonds justice? I’m not referring to Hollywood movies here. Sure, we got those golden oldies like Magalir Mattum and Snegithae showing the code in all its glory. But these days? It’s rare to find a film that truly captures the essence of strong female friendships. Perhaps there is nothing to capture as the bonds aren’t forever.

That’s why, on this Women’s Day, I’m reminding y’all to appreciate and nurture those female forces in your life. Don’t let those bonds just fizzle out once you settle down.

My childhood bestie hit me up with the sweetest little message on Women’s Day. Instant heart eyes. It totally made my day. Because, at the end of the day, having a few people that celebrate you and have your back unconditionally? That’s priceless. After that, I voluntarily sent out wishes to several people.

At the end of the day, we could all use more of that empowering energy—that mutual love and respect for each other as human beings. Because whether you’re rocking a skirt or pants, we all just want to feel seen, heard, and valued by the people who matter most.

So thank you to all the real ones out there—my sisters from other misters, my brunch buns, and every last king who celebrates queens unapologetically!

Here’s to more of that energy.

Now go remind a beloved bestie just how much they mean to you. Those bonds deserve to be cherished and flexed daily! Happy Women’s Day to all you brilliant souls !

Cheers!

Voice Notes vs. Writer’s Block: My Secret Weapon!

Today is February 29th, a rare day that only occurs every four years. Reflecting on how life has changed in the past four years, the author shares a tip to overcome writer’s block: using voice notes and transcribing them. Embracing life’s unexpected paths, the author promises to document future adventures on the blog.

2–3 minutes

It’s February 29th, the rare day that only pops up every four years. Not much out of the ordinary is happening today, and honestly, I’m not even sure this day scientifically counts (don’t quote me on that!). But you know what does count? The fact that I’m writing this blog post right now captures a little memory of this specific day.

Four years ago, I was in a new city, starting fresh. Back then, the future seemed clear—marriage, kids, the whole shebang. But life, as it does, had other plans.

Owning a website and writing blogs? Never in a million years! The thought never even crossed my mind. But hey, that’s the beauty of life, right? It throws you curveballs, and sometimes those curveballs turn into unexpected passions.

Fast forward to today, and who knows what the next four years hold? I honestly have no clue. Writing? Maybe. Something else entirely? Maybe that too. But one thing’s for sure: if I’m still around and doing something interesting, I’ll definitely be documenting it here on the blog.

Speaking of documentation, the real reason I’m writing this is to share a tip that’s helped me overcome writer’s block. I used to struggle mightily, going round and round in my head, tossing out ideas as irrelevant before even getting them on paper (or, in this case, the screen).

First, I tried keeping a diary, jotting down things I wanted to write. But, let’s be honest, sometimes even that felt like too much effort. I discovered the magic of voice notes! It turns out I’m much better at capturing my thoughts by speaking than by typing. I’d chat with myself on WhatsApp (my close friends know I’m a voice note person!). It’s just so much easier and more efficient!

The final piece of the puzzle? Transcribing those voice notes using the magic of Windows + H in a document. It types out everything I say, and suddenly, those once-discarded ideas are flowing freely. It’s like having a mini personal assistant! This method has been a game-changer, and I hope it might help someone else out there too.

So, there you have it—a random February 29th reflection and a bonus tip for anyone struggling with writer’s block.

Cheers!

Happy writing (or talking)!

#DecodeAgri02: Why romanesco is the most beautiful vegetable ?

1–2 minutes

Remember those long days memorizing the Brassica family, cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, and Brussels sprouts! (lol) We became experts in their cultivation, even mastering the nuances of varieties like Snowball and… something else starting with C? Fast forward to today, and there’s a new member of the family that’ll blow your mind. Romanesco!

The name definitely seems cooler than the others. Consider it the greener cousin of cauliflower. Imagine the coolest, green-haired cousin of cauliflower, each floret meticulously sculpted by a geometry whiz obsessed with spirals. These spirals aren’t just random; they follow the mesmerizing Fibonacci sequence, the same pattern you see in sunflower seeds and seashells. (Remember my blog post about peacocks and the golden ratio?).

Geometric pattern of Romanesco

But wait, there’s more to Romanesque than just its stunning fractal-like visuals. This beauty is a nutritional powerhouse, loaded with vitamin C to keep your immune system strong and fibre to keep your gut happy. Its rich history dates back to the 16th century in Italy, and it has been passed down through the generations like a precious heirloom.

I haven’t looked for this vegetable in the market, so let me give it a try. If you’ve tried and cooked this, please share your recipes and thoughts on it. I would love to hear!

Cheers!

Hustle vs. Boredom: Can We Find Peace & Purpose?

The post reflects nostalgia for the simplicity of childhood and the current pressure of adult life. It questions the pursuit of success and the meaning of existence. The author longs for a balance between hustle and reflection, aiming to discover fulfillment. The post invites readers to share their experiences and join a journey of exploration.

2–3 minutes

Remember those lazy summer days of our childhood, sprawled out on the mud, lost in daydreams, ideas blossoming like dandelions in the air? Life back then felt simpler, driven by physical work and fueled by the quiet hum of existence. Today, the world beats with a different rhythm, demanding mental sharpness, relentless hustling, and an ever-present feeling of “not enough.” We work 8 to 9 hours a day, often feeling underpaid and overworked, yet we are constantly seeking new ways to grow, to optimize, and to achieve that unreachable sense of success.

Even the haven of solitude—those precious moments of thinking on the terrace steps—seemed to have vanished for me, consumed by the demands of work and responsibility. I miss the tranquility and creative spark they used to bring.

This scarcity of time, ironically, makes me ponder deeper questions. What if we traded the corporate ladder for the freedom of entrepreneurship?

Then again, wouldn’t that just mean that we would have new masters to answer to—investors, customers, and the never-ending pressure to succeed? Even CEOs and prosperous business owners appear to be weighed down by the pressure of expectations, just like any other individual striving for success.

Then there’s the allure of simpler lives, like the self-sufficient communities in Japan, living by their own rhythms, cultivating crops, and fostering a sense of “ikigai”—their reason for being. It sounds idyllic, but perhaps a touch delusional in our interconnected world.

These thoughts spiral downward, leading me to question the very purpose of our existence. Are we trapped in a hamster wheel of work, bills, and responsibilities, driven by some vague notion of progress but lacking any true meaning? A meme highlighting a monkey happily existing without bills significantly contrasts our human-made system, where even basic survival comes at a cost.

It’s easy to get lost in this existential crisis, but amidst it all, I find myself yearning for something more. Not necessarily complete escape, but perhaps a balance—a way to navigate the inevitable hustle while carving out spaces for reflection, for boredom, for the spark of creativity that leads to a more fulfilling life.

The answers might not be grand pronouncements, but rather small steps: embracing moments of mindfulness, aligning work with purpose, seeking communities that resonate, and remembering that every step towards a fulfilling life is a step in the right direction. This is not an ending, but the beginning of a conversation.

What are your thoughts on the hustle, the boredom, and the big questions? Share your experiences, your struggles, and your hopes in the mail. Let’s explore this journey together, and who knows, maybe in the process, we might just find a way to reclaim a little bit of that childhood peace and discover the answers to the big questions that have been weighing on our minds.

Cheers!!

Love Unfiltered: Review of ‘Lover’ (Spoiler Alert!)

The movie “Lover” explores the complexities of love beyond traditional narratives, portraying realistic relationship challenges and emotional depth effectively.

3–4 minutes

I was nervous at first because I didn’t know much about movie terminology, but at a friend’s recommendation, I decided to give movie reviews a try. This time, I’m discussing the movie “Lover,” which takes a novel approach to the subject of love. So prepare for spoilers and grab some popcorn!

Spoiler alert! We’re going deep into “Lover.” Watch it first if you want to avoid spoilers.

Forget the typical happily-ever-after romance. Lover delves into the ups and downs of a real-life relationship. The title is gender-neutral, reflecting the story’s focus on both perspectives. We meet Arun and Divya, who fall in love during college. But as they navigate careers, family dramas, and personal struggles, their love faces challenges. It goes beyond the usual love tales you see in Kollywood, standing out because it explores the difficulties of keeping a relationship strong amidst family, work, and friendships. It shows the complexities and challenges that come with love, making it a realistic and relatable story.

The movie kicks off with the protagonists falling in love during their college days. However, as they graduate and focus on their careers, the relationship encounters inevitable obstacles. Arun, the male lead, comes from a dysfunctional family with a troubled past, leading to his insecurities and a tendency to exert control over his lover, Divya. This control becomes suffocating for Divya, prompting her to resort to lies to avoid Arun’s anger. The birthday celebration highlights this perfectly: the initial joy feels absent by the end.

The story introduces Divya’s friends, who play an important role in challenging the depth and direction of her relationship with Arun. Their emphasis on the importance of freedom becomes a focal point, emphasizing that this value must not be compromised, not only for Divya but also for Arun. Despite Arun’s desire for such friendships, these statements, while powerful, do not resonate with him as strongly, adding layers of complexity to the entire story.

The film addresses the highs and lows of a relationship, shedding light on the impact of family dynamics on individuals. Arun’s mother’s parallel story adds depth to the narrative, showcasing her struggle to break free from a toxic relationship.

A man hugging a women

The movie subtly explores the different roles men play in relationships, depicting characters at various stages of personal growth and understanding. Arun’s father, consistently drunk and ill-treating, embodies one extreme. Arun, unknowingly causing harm in the name of love, represents another. Madan, who recognizes his mistakes and learns from them, stands as a contrasting figure. Finally, Harish emerges as a character who respects women’s spaces.

While the movie has its pacing issues, it delivers impactful emotions. You’ll feel the anger towards Arun’s father, Arun’s jealousy towards Madan, the liberation of Arun’s mother, and the pain of Divya. Even after their separation, you’ll sense the lingering feelings between Arun and Divya.

At the end, both Arun and Divya grow individually. Arun builds a successful cafe, while Divya overcomes her fear of surfing and her unsteadiness. They both find happiness and fulfilment in their own paths.

The movie concludes with a poignant quote: “Love does not begin and end the way we seem to think it does. Love is a battle; love is a war; love is growing up.”

“Lover” sets itself apart by delving into the complexities of love that go beyond traditional “happily ever after” ends. For those looking for a thought-provoking love story, the film is an appealing one to watch due to its portrayal of complex relationships and strong emotional elements.

Cheers!

Vegan vs. Omnivore Diet: Twin Study

The content discusses the impact of plant-based diets on health, including positive effects on weight, gut health, and aging.

2–3 minutes

You are what you eat, right? Lately, I’ve been pretty focused on the types of food I’m putting into my body, and the same goes for my family (keener on them than me). It’s not a super serious obsession, but it’s definitely something I’ve been thinking about. If you’re curious, you can check out my latest post on Plate Progression.

I’ve become a keen listener of podcasts, especially those featuring various Doc on social media, and I’ve also delved into a few books that have piqued my curiosity. Recently, I watched a documentary series on Netflix - You are what you eat – A twin study experiment health on 22 pairs of twins but 4 pairs were casted.

One twin followed a vegan diet, while the other went for an omnivore diet. Before the diet kicked in, they measured things like weight, lean mass, fat mass, gut microbiome, sexual arousal, problem-solving abilities, memory, telomeres, and epigenetics.

For the first four weeks, they were provided with food, and for the remaining time, they had to cook their own meals (same diet). They also had a trainer and a food coach. The study didn’t just focus on the twins; it also delved into how animals contribute to the climate crisis, environmental pollution, diseases, parasites, etc. The emphasis was on promoting a veganism or plant-based diet.

At the end of the study, the twins on the plant-based diet, coupled with proper resistance training and cardio, experienced a loss in fat mass without compromising lean mass. They also showed improved gut health, increased telomere length, and heightened sexual arousal. However, there was no change in memory, probably because the study was relatively short-term.

The vegan diet, as expected, had its drawbacks, like the long-term lack of Vitamin B12 and Vitamin D, and the lower absorption of iron from plant-based sources. Those weren’t covered. On the positive side, the fiber in plant-based diets nourishes the microbiome, contributing to serotonin production, our happy hormone.

I recall reading in “The Myth of Normal” about telomeres, where longer telomeres indicate better aging and a longer lifespan. The study suggested that those on a vegan diet experienced an increase in telomere length. Additionally, the body tends to use energy stored in muscles (lean mass) before tapping into fat mass if there’s no resistance training or weight lifting. One more thing to be noted is that you need to eat a lot if you’re on a plant-based diet, but you might feel full after a few bites. That’s the drawback.

I can’t help but feel a bit biased at times. There were periods when meat and processed foods were heavily advertised, and now it seems like the spotlight is on veganism. And I am not in favor of killing animals as well. Anyway, capitalism tends to come out on top in the end.

Understanding whether something is truly healthy or just a marketed product isn’t easy for the average common person. Right? It often requires personal experimentation. What are your thoughts on this?

Cheers!

Drunk Ink, Sober Edits!

What appears effortless on the surface may carry a heavier essence within. Although the theme I modified looks tidy and aligns with my preferences, a hurdle emerges — I cannot edit it directly. The font looks smaller, too bad!

Two weeks without writing… it feels good to be back! Writing relaxes me, so even though I have my website (kadupu yethufying). I’m typing this on a Google Sheet.

I find myself at a loss for words because, well, I have a lot to share (lol), and I desire to convey it in Tamil (despite making errors), but the prefectinist within is not letting me. Plus, some people from other countries read my blog, which makes me a little nervous. Sometimes I even wonder what’s there here!

Even though I don’t have tons of readers, I’m happy with the time they spend reading my blog. It’s a positive sign!

There’s a blogger who inspires me. He writes his blog posts super fast, in just 15-20 minutes! I wish I could do that too. Right now, it takes me 3 hours to do everything: gather my thoughts, outline the post, write it, edit it (and re-edit the parts I don’t like!), and then design a picture for the front. By the time I finish, it’s already 3 or 4 hours! But the satisfaction of creating something meaningful makes it all worthwhile.

Remember that quote I shared on Instagram today?

write drunk, edit sober!

I’m not drunk, just drowning in to-do lists. Too much to handle, but I pushed through and wrote this anyway. Doesn’t matter what others think!

No Pressure, Just Joy!

It’s just a reminder that even on the toughest days, doing something small that makes you happy can make a big difference, just like this piece of writing did to me!

I took 20 minutes to type, but publishing work took 40 mins! There was this beautiful song that was playing in the background before I could publish this work!

Ever come across a question so simple that it makes you think twice? That’s what happened to me after watching a video or reel by Baron Ryan (IG profile- Here, go check him out!). He casually dropped this gem: “What was your problem three problems ago?”

It caught me off guard. I mean, who remembers what bothered them three obstacles back? But after a sec, I did scroll into another one (lol). Yet, the more I thought about it, the deeper it went.

So, I went down memory lane, starting with the mini-mountains of the day. Finding fresh blueberries in this town? Mission impossible, and I even pestered my friend to get a hold of a supplier. Is hair falling out faster than leaves in autumn? Major stress. My parents’ diet? A constant battle. Bruno needs deworming. Gross, but gotta do it. And then there was the blog page (here), which I wasn’t updating often, the client payment I was waiting for (I got scammed, I think), and the list went on. These are  the paper cuts on our fingers, the tiny thorns that prick our patience. We deal with them, find alternatives, and they fade into the background noise of existence.

Then came the bigger ones, the monsters under the bed we once feared. Layoffs {phew, still employed! (touch wood)}, student loans (paid off, thank goodness!), even a crippling fear of dogs (seriously, I wouldn’t go near my cousin’s house for years!). Now, I have a furry friend snoring next to me every night. These were the boulders I had to push and the mountains I had to climb. They tested our grit, sucked the air out of our lungs, and yet, somehow, we scaled them. Isn’t it?

But life isn’t a fair game, right? I have a bigger one to climb now (lol). Do I have the courage to climb it right now? Definitely not. Maybe I will find it within. And this reminds me of a quote.

Courage doesn’t always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, I will try again tomorrow. – Mary Anne Radmacher

Life throws these curveballs and these obstacles, big and small, and it doesn’t care if you’re ready or not. But that’s the beauty of this question: “What was my problem three problems ago?” It reminds us that every struggle, big or small, makes us stronger, wiser, and yes, even funnier (trust me, laughing at past stress is a stress-buster).

Let’s share our stories, laugh at the chaos, and climb those peaks together! They might be tough, but hey, who doesn’t love a good adventure?

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have a dog that needs belly rubs.

Cheers!

FOHO: Is This the New Family Fear?

The global phenomenon of declining fertility rates raises questions about the reasons behind our reproductive choices and the evolution of family dynamics.

The issue of population growth, particularly in the context of India’s surging numbers, has occupied my thoughts for some time. It presents a curious paradox: a surge in births in one part of the world set against the ominous undertone of demographic decline elsewhere. From Japan and South Korea to European states and Russia, numerous nations are grappling with declining fertility rates. Are we experiencing a global case of FOHO, the Fear of Having Offspring?

The finger of blame often points towards the rising cost of living. Raising children isn’t just about smiles and giggles; it’s a financial tightrope walk that can leave even the most stable feeling wobbly. Existential questions arise, questioning the wisdom of bringing new life into a world where suffering is a potential outcome, especially if we are uncertain about providing a nurturing environment.

Remember those picture-perfect ancestors with their armloads of kids? They didn’t have TED Talks on childhood trauma or podcasts about mindful parenting. But we do. Such concerns are valid. We now possess a heightened awareness of the intricate nuances of child development, acknowledging the profound impact of a mother’s mental well-being, as emphasized in many research articles on the internet.

The question emerges: are we, armed with this awareness, choosing to abstain from the traditional path of prolific reproduction? Is this a conscious evolution, a decision to step off the birth-and-breed treadmill? Or is there a more nuanced explanation at play?

And speaking of the “why,” Elon Musk. Just recently, he tweeted, “The bigger problem that humanity faces is population collapse.” Maybe it’s not such a simple story. Perhaps it’s a tango of economics, existential worries, and a newfound respect for the weight of raising a child. We’re not just saying “no” to kids; we’re rewriting the whole family playbook.

This isn’t about judging who’s right or wrong. It’s an invitation to ponder the larger picture and comprehend the multifaceted forces shaping our reproductive choices. Are we witnessing the birth pangs of a new evolutionary era where quality surpasses quantity? Or are we, perhaps, victims of our own overthinking of childlessness?. And most importantly, are healthy children only for the privileged people who can afford them and make them better?

Only time will reveal the answers. For now, let’s make room for the complexities, anxieties, and aspirations swirling around this fertility enigma. By understanding the reasons behind our choices, we might illuminate a path towards a future where families, in all their diverse forms, can flourish.

Cheers!

Resolutions!

As we flip the calendar to 01/01/2024, life stretches out like a blank canvas, begging for vibrant strokes. Sure, the clock struck midnight, but it’s not just the date that feels new. It’s the air, thrumming with a potent cocktail of hope, anticipation, and a dash of nervous excitement. And of course, there’s the elephant in the room: resolutions.

I admit, I’m giggling as I write this. Last year’s resolutions, neatly penned in a notebook, lie dormant in a dusty drawer. Finishing the books, getting that driver license—nothing worked. Instead, life wildly pulls me in a different direction. Those rigid resolutions, I suspect, whispered accusations in the back of my mind: “Slacker! Failure!”

The truth, as I discovered later that year, isn’t about brute force. It’s about whispering to your soul, understanding the patterns that hold you back, and gently coaxing change into your habits. It’s about understanding, not just knocking out.

New Year’s Eve brought a revelation in the form of a movie Kho gaye hum kahan (no spoilers, but three friends, a slice of life—you get the picture). Among the laughter and introspection, these resolutions glittered like gems.

  • Ditch the filter and embrace the real. Life, it seems, is best lived unfiltered, blemishes and all.
  • Slow down; keep it real. Authenticity, it turns out, is the key that unlocks genuine connection.
  • Silence the inner critic; celebrate your uniqueness. Comparison, that joy thief, needs to be banished.
  • Gratitude is the secret sauce. Be grateful
  • Find your tribe. Surround yourself with souls who celebrate your quirks.

Exploring these resolutions was a refreshing perspective, especially considering the need for them in our current times. The challenge, of course, lies in translating these noble intentions into everyday life. Yet, acknowledging them as we navigate our actions is a significant step.

I’m not aiming for perfection. I’m embracing the messy, imperfect beauty of the journey. Personally, I aspire to greet the morning sun and incorporate more fiber into my diet. Let’s ditch the generic resolutions and craft those with intentions that resonate with your personal journey.

Let our resolutions be whispered wishes, not deafening demands. And remember, dear reader, the most powerful compass you hold is the one within. Happy New Year!

Cheers to 2024🥂
